This site tells the story of The Royal Ordnance Factory Nottingham, England using photographs and images taken throughout its life. The site was closed in 2001 with operations transfering to BAE SYSTEMS sites at Leicester and Barrow-in-Furness.
We wanted to capture the long, and interesting, history before the site closed and it was lost forever. The site has been created for ex-employees and others who have an interest in the history of the UK Defence industry or the history of local Nottingham manufacturing industries.
BAE SYSTEMS, which wholly owns ROYAL ORDNANCE Plc, has kindly given permission to use this material.
You can add to this site by commenting on the content and structure or by supplying us with pictures or information. To do this use the contact page.
Do you think we need to add any more topics, a different breakdown of the sections? Whatever you think, good or bad, please contact us and provide us with feedback.
We have a lot of pictures available, too many to have on the site. These have been, and continue to be, categorised and samples are being made available to view on the site. To make selection easier we have categorised the photographs into the different sections as shown on the menu list.
Select the area of interest from the menu list, this will expand to show the different sub-categories options for that area. Selecting one of these option will enable you to see small versions of the images available. Clicking on one of these thumbnails will open up the full size image. Due to the very large number of images available we have had to limit the size of the larger images to 800x600, however if you have a specific need to see a bigger version let us know and this may be possible.
Each category has a brief description of what it contains, and the photographs have been grouped into further sections to provide easier reference. We are always looking for more images so if you have any we could use then please let us know. (We will return any original pictures sent to us for scanning). If you can add any detail to any of the images shown on the site, or any other information, then we would also like to hear from you - so please contact us.
